New Circus

- and performance

The New Circus line offers you intensive training period with lots of creative challenges. Our training program puts you in focus as a performer, creator, poet, co-player and as a human being.

Contemporary circus is an alternative circus art that mixes the classic physical circus techniques with modern scenic art. The cross-over approach is characteristic for contemporary circus, and it is therefore a hybrid performing discipline.

The goal of the training is to give you experience as a circus performer in an ensemble. You will train theatre and acting techniques, which will allow you to go beyond your circus skill, and enter the world of theatrical circus performing. The focus will be on your individual position in an ensemble, and you will learn to work in an interactive and theatrical manner with your circus discipline.

New Circus at Performers House
As a student you can use the school premises and tools to maintain or improve other circus disciplines you already master - or who you want to master. Among others, it is possible to take private lessons in for example tissue. Solo lessons are not included in the main school tuition and will cost an additional fee.

Besides working on the floor and in the air, you will be challenged to work with SPACE, the architectural environment, audience (etc.). A new circus performance can take place anywhere - in tents and in theaters, but also on streets / alleys, in nature, in the square, on facades, in windows, on balconies, buildings or shops.

The training will develop your artistic creativity and performance skills by working with open-minded approaches, stage presence, and your ability to communicate and interact with your audience.

What is contemporary circus?
Contemporary circus is a interdisciplinary art form, that first appeared in France in the 1970's. It is an art form that combines art genres like theatre, music, dance, video, etc. Since the 1970's, it's been a genre where new ideas and experiments are always happening, so the limits to what contemporary circus is, are being constantly challenged.
